As Max and Holly trace Vecna's past, they discover he had been watching Holly for years—including the day Holly watched A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors with friends on Halloween. The plot mirrors Season 5 perfectly: seemingly weak kids unite, enter the villain Freddy's nightmare realm, and launch their final battle. Frank Darabont, who directs Stranger Things Season 5, also wrote this film's screenplay.
